Today I’m back to work after spending the last few days in Melbourne, I had such an amazing time there. The first couple of days were cold and very wintery, but luckily the sun came out for the rest of the trip. Much exploring was done, there are so many good things about Melbourne: hidden cafes and laneways full of delicious restaurants, pretty old buildings, great little shops and boutiques, street art and design on every corner.

I can’t wait to visit again, I’d love to check out more of the creative community and design events next time. Do you live in or have you been to Melbourne, are there any little discoveries you’d love to share?

  1. I visited Melbourne almost 10 years ago for just a few days, while having a 3 months trip across Australia. It was cold and rainy, so we didn’t get the chance to discover much… These photos sure make me want to visit again!

  2. I live in Melbourne and think your photos are fantastic. They really capture the vibrant creative scene here. I’m way out in the suburbs so things do get a little less creative and a bit more focused on sport (not in this house though!), but not far from here are the Dandenongs and Yarra Valley both of which have lots of lovely cafes and little galleries. The Yarra Valley also has lots of wineries ranging from your big well known ones to tiny little family run places.
My favourite things to do in Melbourne itself are to explore all the tiny hidden bars, walk in the botanical gardens and shop on Brunswick St Fitzroy.

  3. Best city in the world, hands down. Love that I’ve barely been gone and I already don’t recognize ANY of the street art–constantly changing! I loved just wandering through Fitzroy looking for street art and soaking up the sunshine on St Kilda Beach–and you can’t beat the coffee!

I live in the United States, but these photos are lovely — Melbourne looks beautiful and I’d love to visit Australia someday!

I was down in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago as well! It was freezing when I was there, so I’m glad you got a little bit of sunshine near the end. I absolutely loved exploring the restaurants, coffee and cake shops in St Kilda and can’t wait to go back to see more of the city!

  6. Love these photos, I’ve wanted to visit Melbourne for a long time. What camera and/or settings did you use?

    jo:

Thanks Emily, these were just taken on my iPhone and processed with a few different photoshop actions.

  7. Julie:

Never been but like the sneak preview. Especially the wall/street art and that ceramics shop. Great patterns there. Don’t you love the convenience of the iPhone?

I lived in Melbourne for about a year until June, and loved every day I spent there. The city has so much character, the street art is amazing, the hundreds of cafes with all sorts of cuisines and terrific coffee, and everyone is just so warm & accepting. I especially loved the Night Market at QV Market in the summers. Your shots are so lovely, they make me nostalgic, I would go back in a heartbeat!

  9. Noor:

I really want to visit all my friends here that have traveled say that is their favorite place to go. The pictures are amazing as always.
