This is how I spent my New Year’s Eve — seeing a favourite band of mine, Dead Letter Circus, live on stage and counting down to midnight with Kim, the lead singer. It was fantastic, and equally great was spending some time in Coolangatta for the weekend.

A new year always brings about hope and change for a bigger and better year than the last, how can you not be excited at the possibilities a whole fresh year could hold. Since the weekend I’ve been thinking about what I can do this year to improve and what I’d like to achieve. I haven’t quite nutted out the big things yet, but there are some smaller changes I am thinking about that will in turn help with the bigger picture.

My favourite part of the process in filling it out is defining the year with a single word. The word I have selected for 2012 is FLOURISH.

I intend for my word to be applied to every area of my life — particularly health, work & self. There are many things I already know I should be doing but don’t. There are others I don’t have solutions for yet, but am looking into finding better methods.

HEALTH. Not very cleverly, when I started working from home as a full-time freelancer three years ago, I basically stopped exercising. But now I’m feeling the urge to get back into it again — well, my body is basically telling me I need to. My first step was buying a $19 deal for 20 Bootcamp Sessions from one of those daily deal sites. The next step is hiring a treadmill for 3 months. If all goes well with combining those two, I’m sure I’ll be back into the swing of things. And while my diet is not great, and it may not improve significantly, reading I Quit Sugar by Sarah Wilson certainly has me wanting to change a few things.

WORK. This year is about putting my head down and getting things done. Last year was, for the most part, preparation for what is happening this year. It’s not all planned ahead though, and I’ll be working through my own Right-Brain Business Plan to map out an even better business for myself. After this year, who knows what opportunities will arise for 2013!

SELF. For me this is spreading myself out a little more ‘offline’. Catching up with and meeting people in person more, travelling more, creating more, learning more. This is where lists are good to remind yourself of all the things you want to do, I’m still compiling mine for this year and will post about it soon. I did manage to complete 8 of my last-minute Twelve before 2012.

Time to get cracking!

    Okay, this is just freaky. Not only is my 2012 word Flourish (and Ease and Ignite — I’m doing the Brogan method of picking three), but I literally *just* started a blog to chronicle many of those changes you’re talking about making for yourself. (Health, work balance, being offline more, etc.) And if it’s already not freaky *enough*, when I set the thing up in early December, I used one of *your* watercolor backgrounds (colormatched to the scheme) for it.

    Clearly, we share a brain. Can I have it on Tuesdays?

    Elli: Great Word :) We are definitely heading on a similar path this year and hopefully we both stay on track! I’ll definitely be following your blog, it helps to hear what’s working for others. And any easy meals are a definite bonus, I’m no aspiring chef :) Thanks for commenting today x
