Beautiful office space – Image via Stylizimo

In the last couple of weeks I have been doing quite a lot of work in WordPress, this week saw the launch of the new look Women in Business, and there’s more sites to be launched soon, keep an eye out on The Darling Tree or Twitter to stay updated.

Since I haven’t had as much time this week to peruse all the lovely things around the web, I thought I would share some WordPress plugins I recommend for your blog:

  • WordPress Download Manager – Great for keeping track of how many people are clicking on your downloadable files, I use it on this website to see which patterns you love to download.
  • Different Posts per Page – Very handy if you’re using a custom category, archive or search page design, you can easily control how many posts appear in different sections of the site.
  • Broken Link Checker – The easiest way to make sure all internal and external links are working correctly.
  • Comment Luv – Allow visitors leaving a comment to display their latest post or tweet with their comment.
  • Subscribe to Comments – Adds a checkbox to the comments form that allows commenters to receive email notifications of other new comments posted.
  • WP DB Backup – One of the most important things to do is to install a plugin which creates a regular backup of your blog or website. If anything does go wrong, you’ll be so glad you did.
  • Jetpack – I haven’t implemented this plugin yet but I think it’s worth mentioning as it includes additional functionality to wordpress.org sites which previously were only available on wordpress.com sites.
  • Photodropper – A handy plugin which searches Flickr for photos with permissions, to share in your blog posts. Also automatically adds a nice attribution credit under the image you select.

Do you use some handy wordpress plugins you’d like to share?

  1. This is so fantastic!
I’ve just used the redirect plugin on my site because I’ve changed a couple slugs — it’s a small thing but super helpful to catch old permalinks.

  2. Ooh, thank you, theses are just what I need right now! I’m currently embarking on moving my 7-year-old TypePad blog over to WordPress. So far most useful plug-ins have been…

‘Under Construction’ (puts up a splash page whilst you tinker away behind the scenes).

‘Duplicate Post’ (does what it says – often useful to create a page by editing content rather than a blank sheet).

As you mentioned above I am using ‘WP DB Backup’ – boring but SO important! Plus I am backing up my WP-Content via FTP – the pain I went through moving all those images from TP to WP is NOT something I ever want to have to do ever again!

    I love WordPress plug-ins!!!!

  3. A few other favorites are Flickr Photo Album, Smart Youtube, LinkWithin, WordPress.com Stats, and Yahoo! Media Player. I downloaded the Broken Link Checker after reading this and it’s been quite helpful – thanks for that. So few “design” blogs ever talk about any of the more technical aspects, but I find this kind of post super helpful and, though not as sexy as some of the more colorful offerings around here, why I’m subscribed to this blog. Thanks again!
